May Foodie Book Giveaway

The April book giveaway was for a copy of The Gradual Vegetarian: The Step-By-Step Way to Start Eating the Right Stuff Today, by Lisa Tracy, NY: Dell, 1986. The winner is Rural Mamma, whose blog of the same name has some wonderful photos and information about crafts and frugal living. Congratulations RM!

For the merry month of May, I am offering a copy of "Something to Savour: Food for Thought from Women Writers", edited by Laurie Critchley and Helen Windroth (London: The Women's Press, 1996). It's a lovely little softcover collection of essays and food memories by various women writers from all ethnic backgrounds and there are many delicious recipes to boot.

To win a copy of this book, just leave a comment after this post by Sunday, May 31st, midnight (Eastern Standard Time) and I will randomly pick a winner. Good luck everyone!

I believe it is very important for women to see other women in chef positions and other positions in the kitchen. Oddly, women have been booted from the commercial kitchen for many years and are now getting to reenter that world.

Why is it that women are supposed to be in the kitchen at home, but are so underrepresented in kitchens beyond?

This sounds like a good one! I love to read essays on the same basic subject...all from different perspectives. :)

This book sounds interesting food and woman, is Alice Waters mentioned in it?

Hi Esme:

There is no contribution by Alice Waters, nor is there an essay about her; rather it is a compilation of writings about cultural, social and personal food subjects. Writers include Margaret Atwood, Robin Morgan, Val McDermid, Marcia Muller, Maeve Binchey, Stephanie Dowrick and others.
